ESMMYC Meeting Featured Muni Parks & Rec Leaders – Notes

Oct. 13, 2020 (York County, SC) ESMMYC’s October general membership meeting featured leaders of Parks and Recreation Departments from across York County municipalities! We learned about programming, participation and safety measures in the current environment; and going forward, plans and expectations. Leaders also responded to questions from the audience.

Catawba Riversweep 2020

Oct. 4, 2020 (Tega Cay, SC) The Catawba River flows a little cleaner today thanks to the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation’s 1,300+ volunteers who headed outside to collect trash – by land and by river – for yesterday’s Catawba Riversweep! For 17 years, in partnership with the Lake Wylie Marine Commission, the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation has held the annual Lake Wylie Riversweep. ESMMYC chair has been site captain at the Tega Cay Marina, championing Tega Cay Healthy Kids, since 2010.

Free Meals for York County Kids (Summer Feeding)

June 11, 2020 (York County, SC) Let’s keep all kids fed in York County this summer! Times are hard but free meals are available. A nutritious meal is vital to the health, happiness and growth of a child. Current feeding sites for kids are listed here.

ESMMYC Feb. 2020 Meeting Summary – Healthy Bucks

Mar. 24, 2020 (York County, SC) ESMMYC welcomed Kelsey Allen to our February 11, 2020, general membership meeting. She spoke about Eat Smart Move More South Carolina (ESMMSC) work on House Bill H-32-50 on Healthy Bucks. Lynn Caldwell discussed ESMMYC Access to Healthy Foods work. The meeting concluded with a roundtable discussion.

Bike/Ped Coalition Advocacy Comment on New Interchange (Rock Hill)

Mar. 13. 2020  (Rock Hill, SC) The Bike/Ped Coalition of York County submitted feedback in response to “SCDOT’s Public Notification of a New Interchange Project on I-77″ asking the SCDOT to incorporate safe access for people walking, bicycling, and otherwise rolling (e.g., wheelchairs and strollers) into the planning.

ESMMYC Volunteers at The Community Café

Fort Mill, SC (Jan. 5, 2020) ESMMYC took a field trip for our August 2019 general meeting! We volunteered with a food truck serving free meals in lower-income communities. The Community Café works to reduce food insecurity in Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Lake Wylie and Tega Cay.
