Greenville and Spartanburg Selected for National Program to Fight Childhood Obesity

Activate Upstate in Greenville and Partners for Active Living, Hub City Farmers’ Market, in partnership with Spartanburg’s Childhood Obesity Taskforce in Spartanburg, have each been awarded a 4-year $360,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Walking groups help Sumter’s African-Americans get active for better health

With a $5,000 grant from ESMMSC, Sumter County Active Lifestyles (SCAL) conducted a pilot project in predominately lower-income, African-American areas of Sumter and tested whether the availability and activity of neighborhood walking groups would get residents to walk more for exercise and better health.
University of South Carolina Supports Breastfeeding Employees and Students with Lactation Support Program

SCDDSN – Supporting People with Disabilities to Achieve Healthier Lifestyles

The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs Prevention and Wellness Committee used grant funding from ESMMSC to provide wellness seminars to help move the SCDDSN provider network towards a focus on healthy lifestyles for the people with disabilities.
Kershaw County Comes Together to Make the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice

KershawHealth received the seed grant from ESMMSC to address the issues of physical inactivity and poor nutrition at the local level. KershawHealth developed a local coalition to assess the policies and environments in Kershaw County that affect people’s daily choices.
