Get Out! To a Pickens County hiking trail, that is…

How often do you consider this?

Pickens County is right next door to Western North Carolina, a world-famous destination for hikers and outdoor recreation athletes!

If you think about where we are in relation to what’s just next door, you might be more inclined to think about those natural beauties that create all that recreational opportunity…the Blue Ridge Mountains!

We often have a great view of those mountains just driving around town, which is nice, but many of us don’t get out very often onto the hiking trails that show the mountains’ true beauty.

If you missed the opportunity to get out on National Trails Day, last Saturday June 3, put it on your calendar for next year.  Then in the meantime, give yourself a goal to get out to a trail of some sort every month for the rest of the year!

Help Eat Smart Move More Pickens County celebrate the trails in our county by getting out when you can, and send us info about a trail that’s special to you.  We are working to put together a comprehensive list of our county’s favorites!

Find and tag us in your selfies @esmmpickenscounty on Instagram, or email us at to tell us about your favorite trail!

ps…obviously, the Doodle Trail is a major source of pride for our county in the “trails” category, but I think it deserves its own post coming up soon, don’t you?!? Don’t worry Doodle, we definitely didn’t forget you!
