Southern Grooveline Soul Line Dance Project AKA “SGL” was founded by Karen Corbett and Elizabeth Young and formed on May 2, 2007. The vision of SGL is to establish soul line dance as an art and source of healing for the mind, body and soul. SGL’s theme and logo are dancers on a train which symbolizes a fun journey to good health through dance and travel. SGL became a registered South Carolina Nonprofit Corporation June 20, 2007, and then a Charity in 2009, under the direction of Karen Corbett and Kimberly Hudson. We have over 50 members, associates and many students promoting our mission, Dance While You Can. The Grooveline train stays on track through weekly line dance classes at various locations in Columbia SC. Grooving on the dance floor is a healthy energizing form of exercise and very popular with mature adults. SGL enjoys spreading the joy of dance and entertaining others. We have performed and taught classes at a variety of special engagements and locations to include parties, festivals, rallies, schools, nursing-retirement homes, churches, charity events, social clubs and numerous other celebrations. The SGL “Groovers” share the love and learning of dance by partnering with other groups to experience different types of music and line dance styles. SGL’s motto is "Dancing for Health, Having Fun, Going Places." Dancing and travel has taken SGL to numerous Events and Workshops in Miami FL, the Delaware Valley, Atlanta GA, Tyson’s Corner VA, Greensboro NC, Baltimore MD, Tacoma WA, Charleston, Myrtle Beach and other parts of SC and on a Caribbean Cruise. Line dancing combats health and weight issues; builds confidence, improves mood, coordination, memory and invigorates the soul! This is why we’re Dancing While We Can and so can you……Join Southern Grooveline to Dance While You Can!

Good nutrition, exercise and oral health care are all important in raising a healthy child. The month of February is “Take Heart and Smile” month at EdVenture Children's Museum. Throughout the month, enjoy special programs that teach kids the importance of having a healthy mouth and a healthy body. Special events include:
• Meet Flo and Mo (EdVenture’s automated health educators) and learn about taking care of your teeth (every Saturday in February)
• Dental Health Fair featuring games, using math, art, reading and science to learn more about keeping your mouth healthy, including a visit from the “Smiles for a Lifetime” puppets and “The Tooth Fairy”
(Feb. 20)
• Presentation of the EdVenture Theater’s production of “Oklahoma Smith and the Pyramid of Food”
(February 27)
For more information on this month’s activities, please call 803.400.1133.
