Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice

Livewell Greenville Awarded $1.95 Million from CDC

LiveWell Greenville has received a $1.95 million Community Transformation Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support healthy choices in schools and after school sites in Greenville County.  The grant will enable LiveWell Greenville and its partners to expand successful strategies that include improving nutrition in schools and after school settings, increasing physical activity throughout the day, increasing Safe Routes to School programs and promoting tobacco-free environments.

One key grant strategy will provide financial support to schools and after school programs creating healthy environments, such as promoting physical activity, serving fresh fruits and vegetables, and supporting employee wellness.  Schools and after school programs that develop and implement a wellness plan will have the opportunity to receive a LiveWell designation and $250 in order to support activities, and those making extraordinary changes will be eligible for a prize of $1,000. Both LiveWell Greenville and Greenville County Schools will provide centers with the technical support needed to create and implement an effective wellness plan.
