ESMMKC, DHEC and Kershaw County announce Wildwood Lane Active Living and Pedestrian project

Plans are underway to begin development on the Wildwood Lane Active Living and Pedestrian project in Lugoff. Kershaw County Planning and Zoning Director Michael Conley presented development plans at this month’s Eat Smart Move More Kershaw County (ESMMKC) meeting. The proposed corridor, which was drafted by Alta, will span approximately five miles from Whitehead Road to Lugoff Elementary School on Ridgeway Road.
The corridor will provide 10 foot paved sidewalks, crosswalks and scenic routes for pedestrians to use. It is anticipated the project will encourage residents to increase their physical activity and will improve pedestrian walkways to schools, stores and other communities.
DHEC and CDC funded the planning phase of the project. The project is estimated to cost approximately $4.5 million dollars to complete. “It will take a series of grants and fundraisers to get this accomplished,” Conley said also stating there are several federal and state grants that will be applied for.
ESMMKC is a United Way of Kershaw County partnership with Eat Smart Move More South Carolina.
