Gmail Users: Beware of New Inbox Organization

Did your eyes bug out when you woke up and checked your Gmail?

Without fanfare, Google rolled out a new feature on Gmail that rigidly sorts your inbox into categories called Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums. And if you’re anything like me, none of these categories really describes your email life.

In fact, if you have your email already sorted using Gmail filters, it might be easier to just turn the new tab system off. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Go to settings and click “configure inbox.”
  2. Uncheck all the the new tabs that appeared like magic in your inbox.
  3. Click “Save.”

Or, if you want to keep the new features without missing crucial emails, make sure to click and drag emails from organizations you care about (like NOI!) over from “Promotions” to “Primary” to ensure they aren’t missed.
