Erika Kirby becomes ESMMSC board chairman; new members announced

Erika Kirby016a croppedErika Kirby was appointed to serve as Board Chairman for Eat Smart Move More South Carolina (ESMMSC). Her appointment was effective January 1, 2016 and she succeeds Eleanor Dunlap.

Erika currently serves as Senior Research Analyst/Grants Manager for the BlueCross BlueShield of SC Foundation. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio in Nutrition/Pre-med., and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. She was involved in the establishment and formation building of ESMMSC and served on the inaugural Board. Formerly, Erika was Director of the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity at the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control.

“We are delighted that Erika has agreed to serve as Chairman,” said Beth Franco, ESMMSC’s Executive Director. “She brings a wealth of relevant public health and operating experience to our Board and will offer invaluable guidance and strategic vision to our organization.”

“I am excited about the opportunity to serve as Eat Smart Move More South Carolina Chairman,” said Erika. “The organization has a strong foundation and presence in our communities, strong growth potential and an experienced, capable executive team. I look forward to working with Beth, the executive team and the Board to sustain progress.”

In addition to Erika’s appointment, two new members were appointed to the Board of Directors:

Lisa Davis, SC Department of Health and Environmental Control

Lisa Davis serves as Director of Health Services for the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.  In this position, Lisa is responsible for the Bureaus of Maternal and Child Health, Community Health and Chronic Disease Prevention, Disease Control, Client Services, and Public Health Statistics and Information Services. She also serves as DHEC’s senior deputy to the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.

Laura Bird Long MD, MPH, The LongView, P.C.
Dr. Long is president of The LongView, a healthcare strategy consulting company focused on delivering tomorrow’s healthcare solutions. Dr. Long works with innovative, energetic, forward thinking client teams to align payers, providers, vendors and Pharma to create more effective, efficient care delivery models. Current work with clients includes patient-centered medical home, accountable care models, value based payment, alternative sites of care, telemedicine, oncology and pharmacy management. Dr. Long is the former Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Clinical Innovation at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
