Leveraging Juvenile Justice Food Environments to Advance Health Equity
March 19 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This webinar shares new research from ChangeLab Solutions and RTI International on the policies and practices shaping food environments in residential juvenile justice facilities — and how those policies and practices might address diet-related health inequities. The research reflects both a national review as well as a sample of facilities in North Carolina.
In the United States, juvenile justice facilities serve at least 144,000 meals per day to over 48,000 youth. Changes to food environments in juvenile justice settings have potential health equity implications. However, there is limited research on the makeup of these food environments; the factors that shape them; and their public health outcomes.
In this upcoming webinar, ChangeLab Solutions and RTI International will share research findings on the following topics:
- The juvenile justice population
- Institutional food systems and operations
- The policy and regulatory landscape
- Potential policy and environmental improvements
Speakers will also cover promising practices and approaches to providing a healthy food environment in residential juvenile justice facilities.
