Eat Smart, Move More SC is guided by a Board of Directors made up the Executive Team (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) and representatives from a wide variety of non profits, organizations, government agencies and others with a vested interest in healthy eating and active living.

Dr. Lee Pearson was elected chair of the board of directors in January of 2010.  He brings to this role extensive experience in working to address the public health priorities of South Carolina as a researcher, practitioner and collaborative partner in numerous statewide initiatives.  Through his professional role as director of the South Carolina Public Health Institute, Dr. Pearson is actively engaged in efforts to promote evidence-based policies, strategic prevention efforts, and effective leadership around public health issues in our state.  As chair of the board of directors for Eat Smart, Move More…SC, Dr. Pearson is committed to working with the organization’s members, partners and other key stakeholders to promote healthy eating and active living across South Carolina.

Vice Chair: Jessica Johnston, MPH, CPT, NWC
BlueCross BlueShield of SC

Presently Jessica is the Health Programs Development Manager at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. She has worked for BlueCross for over 14 years designing behavior change programs to assist BlueCross members to attain healthier lifestyles. Her responsibilities include program design, implementation and evaluation for disease management, maternity and wellness programs. She also assists BlueCross employer groups with onsite wellness solutions and health and productivity management. Jessica is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she received her Master?s degree in Public Health. She is a certified Group Fitness Instructor through Health Directions as well as a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition and Wellness Consultant through American Fitness Professionals Association. She also volunteers for the United Way as a grant evaluator, is the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for Eat Smart Move More SC and the Executive Officer and Wellness Coordinator for the General Conference of Evangelical Protestant Churches.

Lynn is currently the Director of the SC Healthy Schools program at the SC Department of Education. This is a CDC funded project to develop coordinated and collaborative school health models at the state, district and local levels to improve the health and academic achievement of school age youth. She previously served as the Healthy Schools Infrastructure Director at the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). She attended Columbia College and Winthrop University.

Her background includes teaching physical education and health at the elementary and high school level in Lancaster County schools. She also worked as a health educator in health promotion for the DHEC Catawba Public Health District.

Prior to her position with Eat Smart, Move More…SC, Amy served as the Executive Director for the South Carolina Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity since its creation in 2000.

While with SCCPPA, Amy organized such state activities as Walk to School Day, worked with the Dept. of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School program, facilitated the annual physical activity conference, and hosted legislative events promoting physical activity agendas.

Amy attended Miami University (BS) and the University of Toledo (M.Ed.). Her background includes 12 years working in both the fitness industry and hospital wellness.
