ACTION ALERT: Support smart snacks in schools!

action alertThe U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently proposed updated nutrition standards for snacks and beverages sold in schools through vending machines, a la carte lines, and schools stores.

We need your help to let USDA know you support strong nutrition standards in schools!

Current standards for snacks and beverages sold in schools are out of date and don’t make sense from the standpoint of nutrition science and public health concerns around child nutrition and obesity.  While some states and localities have made progress to improve the nutritional quality of their snack foods, all children across the country deserve healthy snack options. Research shows that unhealthy snacks are still widely available in schools.

Luckily, many studies and real-life examples show that when schools switch to healthier foods, kids’ diets improve and schools don’t lose revenue.

Please write to USDA today and let them know you support strong nutrition standards for all foods sold in schools!
