Obesity Summit Gets a New Name

The Eat Smart Move More South Carolina Board of Directors is excited to announce a new name for the SC Obesity Summit: The Leadership Summit for Healthier Communities. The rebranding reflects the role of local leadership in creating a vision, engaging a community and creating change.

We have had the honor of working with individuals who in their communities: a city manager committed to creating a walkable, vibrant downtown, a food service director working with staff to revamp school lunches, a young person working with other students to create a place where they can be safe and physically active.  All of these people are leaders, and we’re highlighting them, and many others, in a special campaign, as well as at the Leadership Summit for Healthy Communities.

The Leadership Summit for Healthier Communities will be held October 23-24 at the Marriott Downtown in Columbia, which is located less than a block from the newly revitalized Main Street. Also, the Leadership Summit will be held over two days, allowing participants more time to network and for learning.

The Leadership Summit for Healthy Communities is the only statewide conference that focuses on healthy eating and active living. Over the past 14 years, the Summit has grown in attendance as content specialists in obesity prevention, healthy eating, and active living strategies meet with community partners who are working on local solutions. Participants who attend represent various sectors including health, education, faith, local government, and nonprofits.
